I found myself starting this new journey using at first water colors. I remembered them from my days as a kid at school. I enjoy working with this medium, it’s flow and the transparency it reveals. There is a feeling of lightness and joy when I paint an aquarelle.
At this point I mostly enjoy the freedom that the acrylic technic brings. Painting with acrylics is rewarding, easy, fun and very versatile.
We can use acrylics in different ways to create many different styles of art.
Acrylics are water-based, which means that unlike oil paints, they can be thinned with water and cleaned with water. They are also non-toxic and non-smelly. For those concerned about the eco system and are conscious about their health, this makes acrylics an even more attractive option. Acrylic paints can mimic the quality of oil paints, but without the toxicity and clean-up issues that go along with oils. When thinned with lots of water, acrylics can also resemble the qualities of watercolor.
Acrylic paint dries quickly and is very versatile, which means they can achieve many different effects and are easily used for a variety of styles. The most popular surfaces for painting with acrylics are canvases – this is also what I predominantly use – wood, or paper.
